Alexander Bobella Announces Candidacy for Franklin County State Senator

, on
My name is Alexander Bobella. I’m a Democrat running for Franklin State Senate because too many of us are being ignored and forgotten by a system that’s supposed to be of, by, and for us. We’re going to change that this year. Too many Vermonters are being left out and left behind despite the work we do to uplift our communities.

After attending Marlboro College and UVM, I chose to make Franklin County my home. I live on Lake Street in Saint Albans, and I’m proud to be part of this community. But many of us are living paycheck-to-paycheck and just barely getting by when the ultra-rich in our country play by their own rules and profit from our hard work. That’s not right, and we’re going to fight back.

I currently serve our community as a social worker ensuring my neighbors have access to the healthcare, housing, and critical services that they need. As out-of-state developers and wealthy CEOs sell us out, I know firsthand where the system falls short and I’m ready to lean in and push our state past this broken status quo.

As a working person myself, I’ve waited tables for 16 hours a day; I’ve worked at the Brattleboro Retreat, and at UVMMC, and for the Agency of Human Services; I’ve staffed a crisis line at the Pride Center of Vermont; I’ve joined healthcare workers organizing for better conditions and what I’ve learned from all my experiences is that while a handful of people are doing quite well, the system is rigged against working people. We’re fighting for an economy that works for all of us, not just a few wealthy campaign contributors.

Growing up, my parents valued hard work and service. That’s part of the reason I leaned in and was appointed unanimously to the Saint Albans Climate and Energy Advisory Commission, where we’re working to build a more sustainable future for Franklin County. I look forward to continuing that work as a senator.

In this critical midterm year where districts like ours can send a message across the country about what really matters, I’m running to strengthen rural healthcare, support our farms and local economy, and make Vermont a place that working people – all of us – can actually afford to live and thrive in. That’s what this campaign is about and that’s why I’m running.

Because Franklin District deserves a real fighter in Montpelier: we need bold new ideas and someone who remembers the people that matter - us. This is a movement, not a moment. Together, we can make Vermont work for working people.
