Statement on the Passing of Terje Anderson, Former Vermont Democratic Party Chair

FRANKLIN COUNTY, VT — We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our friend, neighbor, and former state party Chair, Terje Anderson. Terje passed away early Sunday morning.

He was a powerful voice in state and national politics. But he loved coming home to Montgomery. There, Terje was our neighbor: A brilliant mind with a ready smile, and a loyal friend beloved by his community.

Terje dedicated his life to a vital cause. He worked tirelessly to help vulnerable people thrive and get ahead in a system that so often refused to treat them fairly. From his early days championing LGBTQ+ equality to his foundational leadership at the National Association of People with AIDS, Terje made our state a better place for more Vermonters.

We send our profound love to his family, friends, and colleagues. Together, let us honor his memory by carrying his mission forward.

Rest in peace, Terje. You will be greatly missed.
