30 Republicans Voted Against Protecting Your Constitutional Rights

, on
MONTPELIER, VT — Thirty extreme Republican legislators just voted against resolutions defending fundamental freedoms, calling for accountability, and advocating for de-escalation in ICE operations.

The murders of Alex Pretti and Renée Good by federal agents is a tragedy that should trouble every American, regardless of party or ideology. In a nation founded on the rule of law, no one should fear that their government's response to exercising their First, Second or Fourth Amendment rights will end in violence.

With H.R. 12 and S.R. 21, the Vermont State Legislature reaffirmed its commitment to defending our fundamental freedoms and called for de-escalation, transparency, and accountability.

Thirty Republicans voted no.

Now is a time for leaders of all parties to speak up and demand a federal government that acts in accordance with the Constitution, yet 30 Republicans voted against these resolutions.

This is exactly why state parties matter.

When Washington becomes chaotic, extreme, or unaccountable, the last line of defense for our democracy is right here at home. Our state government. Our elections. Our organizing. Our voters.

The refusal of 30 extremist Republicans to support resolutions defending our fundamental freedoms is a betrayal of the very principles Vermonters hold dear. Their actions are inexcusable. For the future of our democracy, we must vote these Republicans out in November.

History will remember this moment. The question is whether we organize to change what comes next.
